To all the California officials concerned with meeting the needs of the residents of Los Angeles County:
Los Angeles County is home to the highest number of dog owners (1.5 million and growing) in the state, yet only 1/10 of a mile of the county’s 75 miles of beaches is designated as an off-leash dog beach. Considering the multitude of other recreational venues sanctioned by Los Angeles County, it is clear that the needs of dog owners are not being met.
Studies show that the water quality at designated dog beaches in California is equal to that of the surrounding beaches. Dog beaches spanning the coast of California serve as examples that, with the help of responsible dog owners and dedicated volunteers, a dog beach is a peaceful, non-intrusive, safe, fun place for people and their dogs to recreate.
We, the undersigned parties, who live, work, vote, and pay taxes in Los Angeles County, seek equality in the recreation venue. Our goal is to establish and maintain an off-leash dog beach on an underused one-mile section of Dockweiler State Beach. We see this beach as a community project, in partnership with Los Angeles County, designed to satisfy the needs of both dog owners and the general public.

There are certain protions of beach adjacent to the El Segundo beach that are NEVER used- by anyone. Why not allow dogs to use a portion of the beach that is not used by anyone else?
